who we are

Road books have been produced by writer Judy Kravis and artist Peter Morgan up a hill in Inniscarra, County Cork, since 1992. They keep hens, grow vegetables, tend compost heaps, plant trees and stock and restock logpiles. The trees become a forest and the pleasure becomes contemplative. In 2016 they initiated a move towards sharing the resource they have created, inviting artists and writers to come and use the space. There are plans to develop residencies for 2018.

The range of their work is reflected in the road books imprints: public access, boreen, highway, byways and roadworks. They work together, in collaboration with groups, and individually. Editions range from one to several hundred, both handmade and commercially printed. Every force evolves a form.

Judy Kravis writes, watches, listens, interviews the dead as well as the living, blogs about the books she reads and where she reads them. www.pocketbook.ie

Peter Morgan works with photography, text, moving images and 3-D objects. His approach is often humorous and conceptual. www.petermorgan.ie

They regularly show at small press and artist’s book fairs. Their books are in the collections of Tate Britain, Victoria and Albert Museum, Artphilein Foundation, Royal College, Chelsea, Slade, Winchester and Limerick schools of art, University College Cork, University of Wales Institute, Saison Poetry Library and National Irish Visual Arts Library, Dublin.
